Boondocking in Rabbit Valley - Dinosaurs!
Dinosaurs Today - As the Rain Fell, We Left The Area
Wednesday September 20th

We decided to take a short trip across the highway to the dinosaur mine and take the hike "Journey Through Time" for today. Plus do a few errands and check out the museum in town. Also, this page has been split up into two pages as it is packed with pictures. So I split it into two different pages. You can go to the bottom to see the next page.

The Trail Through Time: Start of the Trail at Exit 2 off of Interstate 70. That's right folks, you could be seeing Dinosaurs on your way to Utah. We signed the guest book as Laura-n-Sasha.com and headed to the trailhead. Of course, it started raining right when we wanted to take the trail, so we waited a bit before venturing out. There are two parts to this trail; one is wheelchair accessible: what you see here, and one part is not (which you will see shortly.) The maps say that the trail is moderately strenuous, but we did not think so.
We first saw this Camarasaurus - well, we would not have seen it unless the sign was there and there were a few markers as well. These bones were preserved in the rock, and thankfully, no one had stolen them.
Where are the dinosaurs? Almost the entire trail around, the points on the trail were talking about the geology, topography, animals (living) and plants (living). No dinosaur bones were to be found along the trail. It was as though they were picked clean.
The rocky trail in the foreground is the harder trail and in the background is the lower/easier trail.
Yesterday, Sasha said that he saw some arches that turned out to not be. So I wanted to show him what an arch looked like instead.
Rabbit Valley Overlook, where we have been making our home for almost a week. If you click on this picture you can see the red arrow a little better. That is pointing to what I believe is our homestead.
Here we are in the mudstones and hills that hold the dinosaur bones, the area around us is very arid, although they were getting rain before and after these pictures were taken.
Finally some bones! These were the bones of a Sauropod, of the spine, This was the last bit of bones we saw at this park.
This was a claim marker that someone had made, but they did not claim it correctly, so this land was never theirs.

After this picture, we headed back to our ATV and motorcycle, headed back to the site, had lunch and then headed out to Dinosaur Journey, located at Fruita. We were going to check out the museum, take showers, and get some dinner.

I do not have many pictures of the Dinosaur Journey, however, I did take a few movies of the animated dinosaurs. There were four full sized dinosaurs that moved, roared, spit and blinked. So go ahead and click on the links below, to see these animals moving.
T-Rex: This is a juvenile T-Rex (as an adult would be too large for the museum)
Stegosaurus -  a little one defending his territory
The others will come in later, as they are both large, in the Videos section.
The case of the bones here is of the Camptosaurus, a bipedal dinosaurs.
This is just the upper arm bone of a Brachiosaurus and it was taller than Laura.
Here is the leg of a brachiosaurus and as you can see, it is quite large.
This is what they believed the inside of a T-Rex leg would look like as well as the outside of the leg.
Again you should notice how very large the leg is, this is based on the true size of an adult, and it only shows part of the leg!
So that is it of the pictures in that museum. After the museum, we took showers, did laundry, and went and had dinner at Rib City Grill which is nearby the state park where we took the showers, laundry and filled up the water tanks. We headed back to Rabbit Valley, our boondocking site and will head out tomorrow for the next dinosaur adventure.

Check out the Next Day, Dinosaurs! Checking out the dinosaurs in Utah.
