December - old hats at being Cabin Camp Hosts for the
Winter
We were becoming old hats at doing the hosting position
at the cabin camps. It is a pretty easy job, as long as you
make sure that the people clean up after themselves. That is
the hardest part. December had lots of parties at the cabin
camps, but thankfully, Christmas and New Year's Day were
during the week, so we did not have to work holidays per
say.
We went to the Prince William Forest Park holiday party,
put on by the employees of the park. It was interesting, I
thought there would be more people at the party, but because
it cost something to go, I guess some people did not want to
pay for it. So not everybody went. It was also at a bowling
alley - they had a room upstairs that was pretty nice. It
was a sit down dinner, but you had it as a buffet type -
just get your food one time.
They also had a DJ and so Sasha and I did dance, we were
one of the first on the dance floor. .Unfortunately (or
fortunately) we do not have pictures of us dancing.
My Mom and Dad came up to see the cabin camps on December
12, so that they could finally see where we were living
(Sasha's parents had come over in November.) They liked the
cabin too.
I was still sending out resumes, this time mostly to
Northern Virginia, and Virginia area, while also checking
out State and National Parks. I found out that I would have
to find something else after the end of March, as they had
gotten some other people for the Visitor Center for next
year. We knew this was going to happen, but still, it is so
nice here at the park. I had even gotten a call from Kings
Canyon (in California) for a full time, temporary position
that would start in January and go for 4 months. Now, if
Sasha was not working and we were close to retiring - this
would be good, we could go out there and have a job for a
while. But it was not good for this time in our lives. So I
had to decline.
We had two groups come in - one the Friday before
Christmas and one the weekend after Christmas, so we were
able to be with my family for Christmas time. We went down
to Williamsburg to be with my folks and had Christmas Eve
dinner with my sister and her family. The kids were so cute,
getting their presents and so excited about Santa. My sister
made a fabulous dinner (she really is a great cook - I
really am not!) I love playing with the kiddies. Plus it was
not too cold out, so although we did not play outside, we
did light luminaries and enjoyed the great weather. We also
found out that my parents found a new home, in Williamsburg.
So now, they are only 2 hours away rather than 4 or 5 hours.
At least for now.
We had fun in Williamsburg with my folks, had Christmas
dinner at a very nice community - although it was buffet -
the food was gourmet in a country club-like setting. We had
gone there the year before, I believe it was called Kings
Mill.
We took the truck down, and was able to use it for
helping my parents move some furniture as well as going from
place to place. It is a lot easier to fit four tall people
in a spacious Ford F350 Super Duty than in a Jeep. You do
not have to worry about your knees getting squashed.
I also saw my friends at the Book Club Christmas party,
it was just the ladies at the party this time around. We
talked and ate great food. It is a little tough for me to
get to the other meetings, but I am glad to see everyone is
doing great.
I got out my cards not in December - it seemed like the
month just flew by, but did get them out right after
Christmas. I am going to put the poem up here, to be read as
though you are singing Jingle Bells:
Ode to Joy
From Laura and Sasha
(To be read to the tune of Jingle Bells, sort of)
Well, the year started off most interestingly
I have to say it’s true.
We came back from an awesome vacation,
And decided what to do.
Oh!
We put our house on the Market,
Sold all of our Stuff
We decided we did not want a house no more
We had had enough.
Oh!
Laura worked her business, volunteering,
Marketing and selling the house,
Sasha spent long hours, at work, working out,
and designing our trailer; and no one was a louse.
Oh!
Our House was under Contract,
on Easter evening, April Eight,
We had the house inspection, appraisal, house content sale,
radon remediation, glass cutters, Salvation Army, moving
company, and cleaning people,
By the May Fourth date.
Oh!
We started our new life,
At Prince William Forest Park.
We have now moved three times
And that was not a lark!
Oh!
We are now in a Park cabin,
Laura is looking for a new position.
Sasha gets to telecommute -
What a great decision!
Oh!
We hope you have enjoyed your year,
As much as we have had,
And we can invite you now,
To come to our new pad.
Oh!
A Merry Christmas to you,
We know that this is Late,
But this took a while to compose,
And that was just our Fate!
Oh!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Life is Good - Hugs and Love
