We are also going to be experimenting with
trying to live off of our "grid" by getting enough food,
water and fuels to last us at least a month. I do not think
the water will last that long (because of Sasha's long
showers, hint, hint,) but not having to go to the grocery
would be a good idea. We shall see if it works.
Well, this was an expensive month only
because we had a couple of major purchases, but we also sold
Sasha's Motorcycle. Anyway, check it out, and see the
explanations below.
Well, as you can see, we spent a bit this
month but most of it was on the two bikes. I got a scooter
to take me back and forth to work, not necessarily here at
Lake Mead but at the next park we were going to. We figured
that it did not make sense to use the truck for that. And we
were not sure if a bicycle would work where we were going to
be, but it probably would have. Anyway, we got the scooter
for me and we sold Sasha's motorcycle, and got him a dual
sport motorcycle. This way he can go on pavement and dirt
roads. Both the scooter and the motorcycle have license
plates (well, will in a month, we have to get them).
We also spent a bit of money on provisions.
Found out that Canyonlands National Park wants me to start
work March 16th! It is for the Needles District, which means
no cell phone, no internet, and no grocery stores for at
least 100 miles. SO the more provisions we have, the better
it is.
When we went to get Sasha's motorcycle, we
stopped at Winco and got provisions like you would not
believe. We went during the midnight hour, found everything
that we could want, and then stayed in a motel that evening.
We did go to the movies this month and again
went to Avatar 3D IMAX. But we felt that the IMAX version
was not as impressive, but seeing the movie again was great.
We also spent a bit more in going out to eat this month, we
checked out the Super Bowl at one of the casinos, Sunset
Station (that is also where the movie theatre was too) and
got $1 beers and hot dogs.
We did more gambling, but it was not as
much, we were sort of sick of that. Instead, once I found
out about Canyonlands, they sent me a packet of paperwork
that I had to fill out. Part of it was to get fingerprinted
yet again. We went first to Boulder City, who stated that
they could do it, but their machines, after trying several
times to make it work, did not! So had to go into Las Vegas,
Metro Unit (they actually have an office set up JUST for
fingerprinting!) So that is where I went.
When we went to Costco to get some
provisions, I had to re-up the Costco membership. But it was
worth it, got lots of oatmeal and olive oil, plus other
stuff.
Anyway, I got the offer in February, and I
stopped working at Lake Mead in March, so check out that
month's page. I will have stuff up probably in the next
couple of weeks, as soon as we get back into internet
service again.

We took some pictures for my talk about Geology
Out the Window. Although I did not give the program,
I was able to take some great pictures. So here are
a few of them. |
 |
Old Mine |
 |
Old Spanish Trail - it runs through this area. |
 |
Lake Las Vegas and the cool geology here. |
 |
Flowing Wash (from Las Vegas area) |
 |
Fortification Hill - although we did not climb
it, Lake Mead does lead hikes up there. |
 |
We did take a nice hike to Anniversary Mines and
Narrows. So the next couple of pictures are of that
area. However, our battery died when we were in the
canyon, so we do not have pictures of that. Have to
remember to keep that camera charged! |
 |
Ore Car Mine |
 |
This is the trail, it follows a wash. |
 |
Anniversary Mine. It was named that because the
guy bought it for his wife on their anniversary.
Sounds sweet. |
 |
We thought this was pretty cool, seeing Geology
in action (well not really, the land did not slump
while we were there) but as far as "geologic time"
goes, this is pretty recent a slump. |
 |
Beginning of the canyon walk and the dead
camera. Sorry folks, but you will just have to go on
the hike to see the beautiful views. |
As we stated above, we got a dual sport
motorcycle for Sasha, so we have a couple of pictures of him
riding back to Lake Mead, and one of the rides he went on.

Well, we have lots more pictures in March;
we will be headed to Canyonlands and do a bit of hiking
there. I just had one more day of work at Lake Mead, on
March 3rd. So check out March.
Check out Next Month:
March, heading for the next adventure - to Canyonlands
National Park, but first, some work and southern Lake
Mead/Lake Mohave!
