Cimarron Park to Fruita State Park
Cimarron Park to Fruita, Colorado First to Fix a Bike, then to Buy an ATV
Tuesday, September 12th & Wednesday, September 13th

We left Cimarron Park around 11 am after checking out the Dam (see Headed West). We went to Delta to see about getting my motorcycle fixed. The guys there were able to fix it and so we headed out to get something to eat (it was around 1pm at that time and we were starving!) We went to this hole in the wall type of place. The reason we picked it is because it had a large parking lot so that we could park the camper and trailer without much difficulty. Then we headed out again to go to Grand Junction and Fruita around 2 pm.

I was working on my clients' websites and told Sasha to stop at fruit and veggie stand so that we could get some fruit. On the way to one of these places, we went down a side road and ripped off the radio antenna. Sasha was not able to find it so we would have to get a new one later on. At least we listen to CDs more than the radio in the camper. We always have to be wary of what is above us.

We got into Grand Junction and Fruita and Sasha stopped at a car wash place to wash the grime from the truck before we headed to the campground. We got out of the car wash place around 4:30pm. I had called the Monument RV campground to make sure there was space available and they had a couple of nights available. So we were off.

Got to the campground to find it very packed - which is kind of unusual so when we went in, they stated that there was a wine festival in town and that there were places reserved for the weekend so we would only have a few days at their campground. So we said ok, and paid for 4 nights. Got to the site and it was smaller than we thought, with the trailer door open and the stairs of the camper. We were planning to take the camper off the truck, but then where would we put the truck? There just was not the room available. So Sasha went back to the office to see where we could stow the truck, and they said: "You can not take the camper off of the truck. We don't allow that anymore." Of course, last year they did allow it and we have some great memories but great memories or no, there is no way that we would stay there. So we went over to the State Park (which is across the road.) We could get until Friday morning.

We set up the camper but decided not to take it off right then. Sasha had started up my motorcycle and I had gotten ready to get on it, but for some reason, it was not running very well. So we had to fiddle with it to get it to run. I managed to get into 2nd gear at one point, but then when I put it into first, I could not get it back to second gear. Last December I had an operation on my left foot (the foot used to shift gears) around the toe area, and when I tried shifting, the toe started aching. I was scared of the motorcycle as well...

To make a long story short, Sasha and I had a bit of a talk and decided that the motorcycle was not right for me. I am just not a motorcycle person. So we are now looking into finding a ATV for me to get and ride. The biggest problem will be trading in the motorcycle without a title. Hopefully a neighbor or family member will be able to go into the house, find the title and FedEx it to us.

With this campground at $16 a night (with electric and water hookups) we feel pretty lucky and we have internet access. So I will have pictures of what we did on September 12 and 13th tonight.

Campsite at Fruita State Park
A victory Ride for Sasha...Will tell you why later.
While Sasha was out for his ride, I took a picture of what we see at our campsite. The sun is setting over the Monument.
So I guess you are wondering, why a victory ride for Sasha? Well, we traded in our Honda 110 (my little bike) for a 2006 Yamaha ATV (All Terrain Vehicle) Kodiak. One of the guys at Grand Valley Powersports - Ed O'Brian - seemed very interested in it. Although we only got half of what we paid for it as it was a trade-in, I was very happy to get the ATV. We don't have pictures of my ATV but see below, there are pictures of what it looks like. What we really liked about this was that they were so helpful, we did not have to have the title right away (thanks to Kristina, our neighbor, she will be sending the Title to them), and financing was easy, no money down and 0% financing for 6 months. Of course, we will pay it when we get back home., but for now, I will be riding free. What I like about the ATV is that I turn it on, press a button, use the gear shift (like a car) and using my thumb, make it go. This ATV is 4-wheel drive so that it can go anywhere.

The one woman salesperson has a dirt bike with pink rims and I was looking at her bike - she had pink stickers galore on it - and thought that it would be cool to get some pink on my bike. She stated that Maier (the company that makes the plastic on the bikes and ATVs) had just come out this year and this month with a new color - PINK! But it was so new that they do not have prices yet. So I guess I will have to wait a little while to get the pink. Anyway, here are a few pictures of what an ATV looks like:

This is what an ATV is. This is a different company than what I got, but you can see how sturdy it would be.
Here is the actual model of my Kodiak ATV, however, I will not have a gun rack or box on the back of mine. And it will be a forest green.
This is what my ATV looks like, with the correct color and accessories. There is no place that I can get burned (like I did with the Honda) and it turns very easily. It also has a digital readout so that I know what gear I am in (only has High, Low, reverse, neutral and park) and the speed. All in all a great machine.
It took us nearly all afternoon yesterday (from 3 pm to 6pm) to get the vehicle and deal with the financing. After that we went to Wal-Mart and picked up a few items and then headed back to the camper.  We had taken the camper off of the truck in the morning, so that we could bring the motorcycle over the the dealer. We are going to go out on Thursday September 14th to scope out areas to ride and to boondock for this weekend. I do not think we will be able to stay at the park because of the wine festival. I think it would be cool to go to the wine festival on Saturday, we shall see.

Check out the Next Couple of Days, Boondocking.
