Boondocking in Grand Valley
Grand Valley, a place like no other - with miles of ATV and Motor Biking to do
Friday, September 29th to Tuesday, October 3rd

There are a couple of days on this page. We found another place to Boondock, in Grand Valley Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) Area. It is a City Park on the outskirts of Grand Junction.

I took this picture from the home page and put it here, because I do not like to have too many pictures on the home page, it slows it down. This is a stock photo, one we got from www.RV.net, not one we took, and no that is NOT Sasha, these trails are way too difficult for us.
Our Camp on September 29th, we are going out for a ride.
Another picture of camp
Sunset ride
Here is our camp on the first full day. We have not taken the camper off of the truck. I took this picture from the side of the road.
Sasha is getting on his boots before we go for a ride. He had some problems with his bike afterwards, there seems to be a gasoline leak. But he is a handy guy and he rigged it up so that it will not be too bad. We took several rides that day, but I do not have pictures of the rides. We were having way too much fun. October 1st we will have more pictures and a few videos.

October 1st: I wanted to get this pictures posted as we saw a guy deliberately drive into the mud right across the street from our camp. So here are a couple of pictures of him getting out. I also have a video of him getting out of the mud. It is called "Jeep In The Mud"
This is our campsite from a little farther away
What is this? A Tank? They are going to take this tank out for a ride. Really got to love the Colorado people, they will take anything out there to go Four-Wheeling (although this does not really count as four wheels.)
They started up the tank and it looks as though they hadn't used it in a while, there were a lot of fumes.
Here is a close up of the tank.
After seeing the tank I decided I could certainly take this big hill.
This large hill behind me is razor sharp at the top. Neither I nor Sasha will attempt as it is very difficult to do. We can see the trail and it is a single track (so I would not be able to do it anyway - phew!)
My Little Donkey is great for relaxing when I have been riding hard.
Sasha on the trail where you can see that big hill, we also have a video from another place within the OHV area that he rode.
That is Sasha at the top of one of the hills; For a little while, I was afraid he was not going to be able to get down. When he finally did get down, he said that it was a single track trail with a very steep downhill. There was no way that he was going to attempt that so he turned the motorcycle around very carefully. His motorcycle is about 300 pounds so it is very difficult to move. We came home after that lovely ride.
October 2nd: There was a track in the OHV area that had been made by people constantly going around it. So Sasha and I tried it out. Got to respect those guys that do motorcross as it was very TOUGH! I was able to go around once and I was sweating and tired.
Sasha went around the track five times! By the end, he was very tired and sweaty. Good thing we take outdoor showers each night, he will definitely need one.
After the track, we went back to camp, had lunch and then went out again with our shotgun - a Mossberg "Persuader" and it has a bit of a kick. I am wearing Sasha's jean jacket as it gives a little bit more protection than a tee-shirt.
Here I am posing with the Shotgun. Melanie from my book club showed me how to hold a gun before I left. My check is not down all the way, but the gun stock is in the right place. She also told me how to stand but I think I might have gotten confused on that. All in all, no bruises from the shooting so I must have been holding it ok. I hit a target once, so that is good.
Sasha is loading the gun. As you notice, he has ear protection on, this is a good idea as the gun shot is very loud.
Sasha posing and shooting a target. He actually did hit the target more times than me, probably because he kept his eyes open more.
Someone came by and we were able to get him to take a picture of us. He came with a handgun. Actually, where we were shooting was for pistols while there was another area for rifles. But those targets were far away, there was no point to being there, so we went to the pistol range instead.
The range, Laura, Sasha, and the Persuader.
When we got back from the range, we need to take showers. As we had not taken the rig off of the truck, the water opening is a little higher up, so we got the ladder and Sasha is filling up the tanks with the water containers. We have four water containers that hold five gallons each. So 20 gallons can go into the clean water tank. Enough for showers, cooking, and drinking for a few days. We took showers that night, and woke to rain in the morning of October 3rd. We quickly broke camp and high-tailed it out of there. We were not going to get stuck at a mud camp. So we went to Island Acres State Park.

Check out the Next Day, Bangs Canyon, another Boondocking area.
