January 2011: Hiking At Lake Mead National Recreation Area

January 17th: We took a short hike, one that was extremely popular, to Nevada Hot Springs. This one can be dangerous if you do not have the proper equipment and if you are not afraid of heights. There are more volcanics here too, lots of sharp rocks.

So why the wall Laura? Well, let me tell you. This wall was huge and tall. It was on the way to the Hoover Dam Bypass. So you can see the road here, there is a dirt road, and not that much parking especially for a large truck. But that is the way it goes, right?

Also, we were back to using the GPS again, so if you click on the map button you will see our route as well as our elevation changes.

Extremely not cool. This area is very new, yet people are already putting there marks on it. Sad, very very sad.

Map Underneath the road!
Map So some people have a little trouble staying on the road, as we can see here with these pieces of car. There is a bunch of pieces, I think from an entire car here. Some of those pieces are up on the walls of the canyon instead. But it gives you an idea of it.
Map Kind of hard to understand the slope in this picture, but you can try. This ultimately was close to the end of the trail for us, but you can see below where we went. Clicking on either one will take you to the link of our elevation and trail tracks.

So in the end, we did not go very far, and certainly did not get to the springs, but that is OK. We instead went over to Lakeview Overlook, which was on the way. And we got a nice surprise when we did.

So both of us look pretty happy even though we did not do all of the hike. Why are we happy (besides the beauty behind us?) Well, Sasha says, "OK, so I'm with Laura at a beautiful lake overlook at sunset. I look down and pick up a piece of white paper, thinking it's litter. NOPE. $67 cash voucher from Paris Casino! Dated today......." WOW - nice for us! We ended up going to Paris Casino a couple of days from then.

January 19th: The night sky should be clear and around 40 degrees F, with some wind. I believe we will only need the flashlights for when we are in the tunnels. Moonlight Hike along Railroad Tunnel Trail....No pictures taken, but I had a nice group for the walk.

January 21st: Down to the Strip we go! Time to Go to Paris and see the sights.

So Sasha Likes these unbelievable colors and the marquee - and this wasn't even on the strip! Night And Day looks!

This is a person fully covered in white or silver paint. Everything is covered. And occasionally he will move and scare someone. Pretty cool - whatever you need to do to make some money...

Paris Casino and Effiel Tower, don't need much more than this, especially when you got a voucher of $67. We saved part of it, and spent part of it too.

January 26th: We went on a nice hike today, 5.6 miles to Anniversary Mine and just a little bit past that. We decided not to go into the Narrows for today, but maybe soon we will be back. Loved the colors of that hike-the reds, oranges, yellows, greens, and purples. Beautiful!

It is interesting though, we do not have a single picture from that hike. Will have to check with Sasha to see where they went to...
