A descriptive look at traveling and full-timing with our second RV, a fifth wheel toyhauler.
Laura and Sasha started this adventure in April of 2005
for a two week vacation in a truck camper.
November 2011: GRCA - Lake Mead National Recreation Area (LAKE)
Has Happened and there are tons of pictures. OF course there are, we always have lots.
November 16th: I do not know what it is about this cottonwood tree, but the hummingbirds just seem to love it. And again, saw the quails and the roadrunner around it yesterday. While I am not much of a birder, this is pretty cool stuff indeed.
So today, hopefully, we can get moving and go to the library, then stuff ourselves silly with a lunch buffet, and then go back to the library to work on Eppley programs and our website. I am hoping for a productive day. Stay tuned! HAHAHAHA - we were not productive after a huge lunner (lunch and dinner) for sure. I just wanted to go home and sleep.
November 17th: Just saw a Lesser goldfinch I think and just now, the hummingbird came back! But I can not tell which kind it is, as he is moving way too fast. I really have to get some red stuff over by the tree, at least he would stick around for a little while longer.
We really like the Railroad Tunnel Trail, it is an easy one, and the views are great:
We just came from a hike to the Bypass Bridge and back. On the way back we saw at least two, maybe four bighorn sheep. First time, I definitely saw a female, second time I definitely saw a male, the others well, all I saw was their backsides! We also heard at least two or more coyotes.
7.9 miles today! NICE! although my legs are sore and I've downed my wine already...It was a pretty good hike.
November 18th: Blue Oyster Cult Concert and dinner. We enjoyed immensely, but I was probably one of the youngest viewers at the show. We had a nice dinner beforehand and saw an approximately 90 minute show.
November 19th: Lots of reading and playing games.
November 20th: Really enjoyed watching The International. Clive is such an intense actor, and that voice of his, bueno! Starting to keep night owls status, in order to check out the stars. I will be doing a program the day after Thanksgiving. Hopefully it is a clear night.
November 21st: Worked on the website and uploaded pictures. We worked at the Library. And we went around to different areas within the park to put up flyers. It was a long day. But the next day would be good hiking weather.
November 22nd: Bowl of Fire: SO we decided we would not wait for someone to lead this hike, that we would go on it ourselves and see what we could see. We had heard about this hike for such a long time and had never been able to go, so we decided on our own to go there. There are two different sections and Sasha got this information from a book. Anyway, here are some of the picures:
| Picture | Explanation | Options |
|---|---|---|
| Bowl of Fire Rocks coming up. | ||
| The Rocks on Fire | ||
| The Rocks and Us | ||
| We got close but not completely there | ||
| Animal tracks, no idea what they were |
November 23rd: Sasha did a hike and I worked on programs (the first one of the New Moon Talks) So here are some pictures that he had of the Cholla Forest.
So he was doing this by himself. Thankfully he had a radio but he took his bike out there, not all the way, but he did hike a little bit with the motorcycle boots on.
Sasha really likes this forest! Now, Sasha also went to Bootleg Canyon, but I am going to show the pictures from when we went together. We did that hike on Thanksgiving Day.
..
..
November 24th: Happy Thanksgiving Day to all those that eat loads and watch TV. We decided not to do that, and instead went for a hike to Bootleg Canyon. Sasha had checked it out on his motorcycle the day before, so we borrowed the Little Hybrid and went up there to check it out and to do a hike.
Happy Thanksgiving to all, we are going the way of the very Non-traditional: hiking this afternoon and then a light dinner. Then I am preparing for a Program that I will give tomorrow night - Evening with The Stars - We'll explore the night sky with stories and science, here at Lake Mead.
Even though we are close to Las Vegas, we still have some amazing night skies. And it is supposed to be a beautiful, clear night. So wherever you are, look up at the sky tomorrow night.
Happy Thanksgiving All.
November 25th: Evening with the Stars TONIGHT! Absolutely beautiful night, clear, no wind, transparency above average, Seeing excellent! Come check out the stars with me. Even if you are somewhere else. We had ~ 35 to 40 people!
November 26th: I was having a discussion with some folks about the government that was taking more of my time than I expected. But I had a great Evening with the Stars the night before. It took a while to fall asleep and we had been staying up quite late.
November 27th: Wasted more time with these folks on discussion about the government
November 28th: Wasted more time with these folks on discussion about the government
November 29th: Wasted more time with these folks on discussion about the government
November 30th: Wasted more time with these folks on discussion about the government, man, I really wasted time with those discussions. Not going to do that anymore. It was a waste of time and nothing really got accomplished. The hatred was palable, almost seething (not me, them). It made my heart race, and kept me up at night. It was not worth the typing on the keyboard. Why the screaming, yelling, whining, and going round and round in circles with no compromise or admission of wrongness is beyond me.
All I can say is that I think I would rather be on a Simple Living forums giving help when needed rather than Facebook radical right winger friend's pages.
