Boondocking in Rabbit Valley - McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area
Ride With Us, The Sun is Shining, The Earth is Drying, Let's Go!
Saturday, September 23rd and Sunday, September 24th

Riding into Utah, getting used to the ATV, and exploring the area. Friday September 22nd, no pictures were taken. So no you did not miss a day.

On Sept. 23rd, Saturday, we decided to check out the area above the dinosaurs - Trail Through Time. There were several really interesting trails going back there, so we decided to check them out. We came upon a road, at this point, so we decided to head back and take another route. As you can see from this picture, it is still cloudy and a little cool - only a high of 60 F.
Found a trail that could take us into Utah, and did, but not too far it turned out.
Since there is a bit of raising animals around here, someone had put up a fence, so Sasha is moving it.
Always a good idea to follow the directions - it says please close fence.
This picture was taken from up high above the dinosaur quarry, you can see the interstate and the whole McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area - where Rabbit Valley is a part of, although you can not see our campsite from here. We are thinking of moving to this campsite (someone is on it right now, but probably will not be here during the week.)
This is an ATV wonderland
The sun is setting here, and you can see some of the view that we had.
Cold day but Sasha is loving every minute of it
We went past the dinosaur quarry and past the administrative area to a beautiful meadow. These two chairs were out, but no sign of the owners.
Here I am with my little donkey. I had just gone through the mud, and hardly got any on me because of the wide fenders and integrated floor boards.
Here is the meadow that I was talking about. We went to the end of the trail, but we could not go any further as it was private land and it looked like they were having a convention, there were so many people around.
We then went back over the Interstate and took a new trail that we had not seen before. It lead us to this view.
So as you can see, we took a couple of pictures of us. Sasha said we just missed the sunset on the rocks, but I think they were looking pretty good. We got home with our lights on the vehicles. I made us some rice, meat, and tomatoes all in one pot, and we went to bed happy that the sun was shining and the temperature was rising.
This is our site on the 9th day of boondocking (Sept. 24); we had the company of a couple who had a motorbike like Sasha. We actually saw them on the trail as well.
Bob and Melody, the couple that were staying at the same area we were, took this picture. This trail down is, in my book, a double D, very dangerous if you do not know what you are doing. The Map calls this trail The Rim Trail, and they too, say it is a Double D. Double D in trails is similar to a double black diamond in Skiing.
This is part of the trail. When we looked at it last night, it did not seem so tough, but I walked down and it is VERY difficult.
It is a little hard to see within this thumbnail, please click on the picture and you can see the steps within the earth. I did not bring the ATV down this, Sasha did in my place.
But you can understand why we would want to go down the trail now, right? Views are spectacular, and that is the Colorado River. We were so close, we could hear the water moving.
While we were taking pictures, the Amtrak train went by with people who had paid to see this view, while we just rode to it.
Of course there was no one to take our picture, so we took it ourselves. We tried going further down the trail, but it went into private land, so again we were thwarted so we turned back. We did see a cyclist, who actually did come from the private land, and he said that no one really cares about the whether or not it is private land. But I do not think he is right. If there is a sign saying that it is private land, then others should not go on it.
This is of course, the steep pass back up the trail.
Once we had gotten back up the Double D, we went into the grassland area and rode around for a while longer.
We found an area that was great for kids, they can practice at this little park, and then take their motorcross bikes out onto the range. I have a video that I will post in the video section, of these kids going round and they are all under 11 years old.

We got back to the camper and chilled out for a while, then had hamburgers and asparagus for dinner. We watched the sun set and are now reading. The camper got charged up during the day, so we were able to work on the website, and almost completely charge the computer. I will upload the pages now, so you can see all that we have done. Have fun - especially Mom, Dad, Aunt Tina and Uncle Joe, going to Italy this week - I guess we all have the traveling bug!

Check out the Next Day, Hike with Us, going to check out Pictographs and Petroglyphs.
