A descriptive look at traveling and full-timing with our second RV, a fifth wheel toyhauler.
Laura and Sasha started this adventure in April of 2005
for a two week vacation in a truck camper.
July 2010: Road Trip to Cool Places
OK, so in the middle of July, we had a quick three days off, so because we feel pretty good about getting our tent up and can camp, we brought it along to go for a road trip. However, the gods of nature were not working with us, and we got a motel room instead.
However, in Natural Bridges, we did camp and had a nice time. We went to a program and checked out the park. On Facebook I wrote: Going to Natural Bridges and Capitol Reef National Park for the 3 day weekend. Natural Bridges will be cooler temps, while Capitol Reef really cool geology. And it was!

| I would click on enlarge to really see the natural bridge here. But it is above the green patch there in the middle. |

| Laura - look how beautiful the weather is! Blue blue skies! | ||

Another Natural Bridge |

These two pictures show the RV spots in Natural Bridges. <===This one is considered to be two sites! and the utilities are in the back. The water would have to be split by two sites! This one, had the utilities on the wrong side, and you would have to make a severe turn into that area. Plus, what happens when it rains? No gravel, just sand...Very sad, because this woul have been a great place to work. ====> |

On the way to Capitol Reef |
On the way to Capitol Reef - if someone could please tell me what this river is, I would appreciate it :) Of course that means clicking on the Map - I believe it is the Colorado River.... |
I manage to get some good shots right out of the window sometimes. So Yes, I believe this is the Colorado River. Wide and greenish inside of canyon walls. |
Beautiful View of the Colorado River. We are at an overlook in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Someone took our picture together, but it did not come in well, so here is the both of us separately. |
Capitol Reef National Park - Great Geology and cool culture all in Utah. |
Like I said - Great Geology - just look at the colors - and definitely go to the Enlarge to see. This is on the scenic drive |
..
.. |
Cool Culture - lots of history and prehistory here, plus...orchards! A fruit lover's paradise. We got apricots and a honey at the farmhouse. They gave you these pickers and ladders so that you could pick your own. Apricots were in season at the time, and we got about 4 pounds - $2! I think apricots in the store cost at least $2 a pound! Pretty good deal and we had fun. |
Good wildlife here too, although the deer look a little puny. But this guy does have some small antlers on him. Beautiful picnic area too. |
Like I said - Great Geology - we are driving to the (and I think we are in it) Waterpocket Fold. It is also called the Burr Trail Road. |

Like I said - Great Geology - we are driving to the (and I think we are in it) Waterpocket Fold. It is also called the Burr Trail Road. The mighty SuperDuty will get us through. We went up to see what we could see. And decided to go up! |
The road less traveled. As you can see, we have a few of those. And you might notice we are on the side, well, just wait, with the rest of the pictures you will see why! I was having a hard time taking pictures, as it was a long way down! |
Long Ways down! Now in Grand Staircase - Escalante! So the signs are on either side of the road. One side NPS, other side BLM Cool Rocks ====> |
Just look at all the colors! |
Even with the dark cloud, we are having fun! We went to a cool bar afterwards, with a couple of pictures below...The Patio The scene in one direction and another was all so neat. |
. So we are on another day, this time some hiking, maybe.... |
Chimney Rock Trail leads to exactly that. Very dusty trail. Next couple of pictures are where we went along this trail. |
Back on the road again, have to get back home before to long. |
Near the Maze, sort of... |
In this case, the road not taken. Sigh... |
Well. we had lots of fun on that trip. As far as we could tell, there were no RV sites for volunteers except for at the campground and orchards, but not anywhere else. I could be wrong, certainly wish that I am because I would love to work there. The geology would be great.
Anyway, July is not over completely. We met up with the Lish Family and took them on the ride of their lives. Check it out.
Check out August's trip to Ouray, Colorado plus Sasha's using a new software called Aperture, which creates some amazing videos. Also check out the Expenses of August.
