A descriptive look at traveling and full-timing with our second RV, a fifth wheel toyhauler.
Laura and Sasha started this adventure in April of 2005
for a two week vacation in a truck camper.
September 2010: Sasha and Lockhart Basin - Who Will Win?
Sasha was doing a bunch of riding, getting away from the hot environment and going exploring. But this trip was not one that he really planned. Unfortunately, after the rains of August, there were some problems with the road that he was going to take. But of course, he did not know that at the time. Anyway, he did not take too many pictures, but here are the ones he took.

| As you might have noticed, there is a dark picture here - he was trying to take a picture of the stars. You see, he got stuck out there...Please read below. |

This is what follows from Facebook Sasha: September 4th: This morning, just got back from a trip on Lockhart Basin Road. A classic, but tough trip. I had wanted to ride all the way to Moab, but unbeknownst to me, the road was completely washed out 9 miles from Moab and I had to return the way I came. This caused a host of problems, chiefly not being able to contact my wife and I ended up sleeping on slickrock under the stars.
Not hearing from me on our scheduled system (no cell coverage anywhere up there), Laura wisely called San Juan county Sheriffs' Dept. 2 of their finest came out overnight and hooked up with me @ 4AM!!!
They helped me get my motorcycle unstuck on a seriously steep and rutted hill, then followed me out as I rode out in the dark on half the trip, followed by amazing morning light! So I ended up having an unplanned camping trip and totally stressing Laura....
Honey, I'm so, so sorry, this won't ever happen again.
Yvonne Jevtich Batal glad your ok!
Bill Banner Dude......You are NOT Smokey the Bear.... Be Careful.
September 5th:
Bo Jevtich Wow!
Me: I was not a happy camper, let me tell you. You know how it goes, praying that a person is alright, and when they get home, are ready to kill them for the worry. That is how I felt.
Yvonne Jevtich Batal It's a luv hate thing... I so get that!
Bo Jevtich Ah. But w Sash, he IS the prepared one. Gotta luv it!
Me: Only trouble was, he was not prepared. He only had 3 L of water, 2 granola bars and an apple. While food is not necessary, electrolytes are and he did not have enough. He also only had lights from a cell phone and the GPS. Thankfully he had a whistle with him so when the SAR guys came he could whistle out his position. He had nothing for camping overnight, and slept in dirt and rock. Thankfully he had a coat and long pants, gloves and a helmet so that he was a little more prepared than others for sleeping out in the stars. He will not be doing that again.
Bill Banner Next time......kkick his butt Laura. !
Karen Capuano Lawrence Glad Sasha is safe! Must have been quite a night...
Me: IT was quite a night, I only got ~ 2 hours sleep, dream horrible dreams. Bill - There is not going to be a next time because he got the word lashing this time. We now have an understanding of how it will work now. THIS will NOT happen again. Once is enough.
Karen Capuano Lawrence Good, now relax. We lost Chloe for a hour the other day. She chased the deer far into the woods. But she came back too. :)
Me: OMG that must have been scary - especially since she does not seem to realize how small she is compared to a deer! Glad she came back.
Yeah, I am going to catch up on some sleep now. Had a great program last night, tons of kids at the program, all wanting to become junior rangers, sitting and listening to the Native American stories about the stars. It was a great night!
Sasha: I wish I had taken a picture of the road where it washed out. It was like a road, then, basically and abruptly, a 30' cliff which would have a waterfall on it during rainy times. The BLM needs to post a sign at both ends of the road saying that the road does not go thru....
So he did not take pictures to really show the road. And while it was an extremely scary night for us both (me probably more than him cause I did not know what was going on) there were a few lessons learned from it. One of the other things learned? Having a SPOT to go with the GPS. I would not allow him to go off again without it.
So we do not have very many pictures between September 3rd when this happened until the Last Hike on September 21st. We were also getting everything ready for our trip back East.
