A descriptive look at traveling and full-timing with our second RV, a fifth wheel toyhauler.
Laura and Sasha started this adventure in April of 2005
for a two week vacation in a truck camper.
September 2011: Grand Canyon National Park
I have taken the information from Facebook to make the page. Ultimately I will have pictures in here, will have to resize some of them. Not only that, we moved to Grand Canyon and we are getting used to a new place, and I also had to work on more programs, so there was less time spent on the website. But that will be changing!
So anyway, here is what was happening in September:
Well, obviously it is almost over before I start writing. But just so you understand, this is the last month working as a Park Ranger. Very exciting still but I was either getting ready for my trip east, working on my Eppley course, working on the website or just plain working, and enjoying the life.
Monsoon season ended around the middle of the month, and it did not go back up in temperature. In fact, we were having some pretty awesome temperature days. Sasha was only working one day a week still, however, he did pick up a couple of days about mid-way through the month. One of his co-workers had a death in the family and she had to go back home to go to the funeral and other stuff. So he picked up a few more days.
But he was also checking out the area too, and he took a ride. I had suggested he should not go, but he was determined. It was still during the monsoon season and he got caught in a quick shower. So this is what happens when you go for a ride when there is rain around here. And the road he went on was, let's just say, NOT paved.
So the first pictures are of the bird on September 1st, but then the pictures are of much later. Slight confusion but That is what happens when you put them in later than usual.
Sasha took a hike, while I was at work, where he went from Desert View to Navajo Point Rim trail:
Sasha also had another hike on September 22nd, my last day of work. He went on the famed Tanner Trail. It is famed because it is so steep. He said that he would only go down it a little ways, so here are some of the pictures:
But my season ended on September 22nd, and I was flying out of Phoenix, AZ on September 23rd, the red-eye flight. So Sasha and I headed down to Phoenix, the Crack of Noon Club getting an earlier start, headed out around 10:30 - 11 am. We had to get my Scooter on the truck, so that is what took a while. We were bringing the Scooter down to Flagstaff to change the tires. While Sasha can do the front, the back tire is difficult because you have to take off the muffler. So for $125, we are getting new tires put on.
It was great bringing the scooter to them, because they had a lift so we did not have to use the ramps that we brought. And that also means it will be easy to get it back on the truck on Saturday.
So once we got that done, we went to eat for lunch at a brewery. Unfortunately, this brewery is nothing like the one in Moab. The portions are SMALL! I was still hungry after having my lunch of skewered shrimp (Major baby shrimp!) cole slaw, and a small hunk of cornbread. I told Sasha that we are not going there again.
We were just remarking how Moab, UT as a town, was so much more fun and interesting than Flagstaff. I guess because it is a bigger town, and has more stores, industry, and a downtown, plus lots of people living there, that the two can not really compare. But we did and although we like Flagstaff, it just is not the same.
So then we headed down to Phoenix, and boy is it hot here. We went and found a motel for Sasha, and then I had a shower and we went out to eat. When we got to the motel, it was still 108 degrees F! By the time we left the restaurant (Denny's) it had gone down to 93 degrees F. And I found a Sprouts grocery store. I had always wanted to go to one, and we were able to go to it last night. They have bulk food like Winco, but then they are also like a farmer's market. So I got a few snacks before the flight. Then we headed out, to the airport and Sasha dropped me off. A whole week with out the honey, we will miss each other a bit.
So it is Saturday, September 24th, and I am waiting in the Atlanta, Georgia airport. They do not have free internet, so I guess it gives me a reason to write. I am not about to pay for internet, I will be getting it at Acadia. But this airport does have charging stations, so if you need to charge up your laptop or other device, you can do so. So I am almost at the 100% (Macs do charge up quick!) which will be good, because the next stop is Lagurdia Airport in New York.
And in LaGuardia, I had internet for like 15 minutes and then it was gone. This airport is definitely well used, old and needs some updating. However, this was the first airport that had a nice salad bar! So that is what I had for lunch. While there are cloud, it is still bright out, so hopefully the plane will be here soon and we will be boarding sooner or later.
I was able to sleep on the LaGuardia flight. The woman sitting next to me was coughing up a lung. I just faced away from her and drank tons of water. Even though I might have only slept an hour or so, it still was a relatively good flight. But now I am up, and hope to take a picture or two out the window of the flight from New York to Maine. We shall see.

I got back from the workshop, had a great time, met some fabulous people and really learned some new things.
