A descriptive look at traveling and full-timing with our second RV, a fifth wheel toyhauler.
Laura and Sasha started this adventure in April of 2005
for a two week vacation in a truck camper.
August 2011: The Rest of August
Ok, so obviously there is more to August than the Road Trip we took in on the second and third of August.
August 4th was a lazy day, then it was a weird day too - we were getting slammed with rain, thunderstorms, and HAIL! I slept part of the day away.
August 5th, back to work for the next couple of days.
August 7th: Even though the next day was a work day, I went out with some of the ladies of Desert View. We went to El Tovar Lodge and Restaurant here in Grand Canyon and had a scrumptious dinner excellent conversation and laughs. I will have to get a picture from one of the girls.
August 8th: Unfortunately, (although I do not think it was the food at El Tovar) I was not feeling well this day and so did not go into work. I made an appointment to go to a Naturopathic Doctor. They are medical doctors that have had additional training for treating the whole body and for finding the causes as to why you feel the way you do, not just the symptoms.
I made the appointment for August 10th, and so Sasha made an appointment with Brake Masters to get the rear brakes done as well. The front brakes did not need to be done.
August 10th: So we went into Flagstaff, kind of early for us. We left at 8:20 am, to get to the Brake Masters by 10 am. And we did make the appointment on time. They said it would take two hours, so we went to The Place - which was across the street and had breakfast/lunch - very tasty. And then we went back over to the brake place, paid and headed over to Root Natural Health clinic. I spent about an hour and a half with them, most of the time going over my medical history, what I eat and how I am feeling. In the end, the doc wanted me to try going six weeks without wheat, to see if that might change the congestion I have. I have had stomach problems in the past, nothing major but annoying. Getting off of wheat might change that.
So now I have to go through our food supplies and I might not be able to eat them. The biggest problem is oatmeal. The way oatmeal is made, there may be wheat flour in it. And therefore, we had to get more expensive oatmeal. We got more fruits and veggies and corn tortillas. These are definitely not as good as flour tortillas, but what can you do? I will see how this all works.

There is only one more month left at Grand Canyon National Park - We have our volunteer gig set up already, and will be headed back to Lake Mead National Recreation Area if I do not get a job. Volunteering only 16 hours a week is a great way to go, and we love volunteering there. Now if we could only keep the expenses down...things would be perfect.
August 16th: We will be going into the Village later on today. I am trying to get all of 2009 up on the website, the newer version of what we did before. If I can get that done, before the end of August, I will be a happy person. I really need a block of time to do it, plus a nice desk to use the mouse and all and a few programs one the computer. Once I have that, creativity flows.
Well, we did not go into the village, I worked on the website, (2009 Road Trip, lots of pictures to put back in) and Sasha went for a short walk - part on a trail, part not on the trail. I will see where this is and get GPS up shortly.
August 17th: Went into the village. We went and became Recreation Center members. I figure for me, I can go in once a week, work out, and then surf the net. Sasha can go in more often. We came back from the Village to go to Christine's bachelorette party. We had quite a bit of fun, really enjoyed the funness of it all. (Sasha of course, did not go, as he is a guy, but all of the ladies in my office went.)
August 18th, lazy day did not do much of anything.
August 19th: Back to work for me, going to do an evening program, but it did not work out, as it was lightening and thundering, right around the time of the program. So no go for me.
August 20th: At work, Sasha went into the Village for a workout and to surf. He got home a little later than me, and I saw that there was a message on my phone, so I listened and realized that he would be coming home late. Isn't technology wonderful?
August 21st: both of us are working today, I am supposed to be roving (did a little) but it was raining in the afternoon. So I worked on some other things instead.
August 22nd: Only a month left before I stop working as a park ranger here at Grand Canyon NP. I will be headed to Acadia NP on September 23rd and go for a week to learn about the night sky and telescopes and to meet some of the trainers from last winter's training sessions.
August 24th: Sasha decided to sell his computer a MacBook so that he could get a new (refurbished) one. So he put the listing on Craigslist, and last night, he sold it. But we had to go into Flagstaff to drop it off, to a young man that is going to college. He had the cash and we gave him an extra hard drive.
Sasha also put our 30 amp extension cord on Craigslist. He stated in the ad that we lived in the Grand Canyon, at Desert View. Well, the people that bought the cord are from Desert View! They just bought a small RV and need an extension cord! So it worked out for all concerned.
There are a few pictures from August that are not part of the road trips or anything else, but our friends at Desert View got married, Christine and Tim, so we have a few pictures to show you.
