 Road Trip
Utah - Couple Days Doing Chores, Hiking, and Visiting Bo

Utah 2009

October 20th, Tuesday, at Liberty, Utah

We arrived at Liberty around 2 pm and it took us a little while to get the trailer in one place and the camper in another. The driveway is very long and the space up top is not quite circular, so there was a bunch of back and forth to get to the trailer in place.

Our Camper at Yvonne's off of the deck. Liberty, UT
Sasha, Laura & Bo on the deck

October 21st, Wednesday, Hanging out, Unloading trailer, sent off volunteer application, and then a cool hike.

Sun's Out! Beautiful view from the house.
Along our hike, Sasha and I
Again, brothers Sasha and Bo
Again, Bo and Laura
This was at a very scary house, there are spikes on the fence. Looks abandoned, but maybe not....ghosts?
Bo and Laura at the overlook to Ogden Valley. If you look really closely, you might be able to see Great Salt Lake.
Us and the valley
We took a road trip after the hike down North Ogden Canyon Road, so here is a view of that road.
And another view
The road that you see here is Powder Mountain Road. We will take that road up on October 23 - NOT in our rig but with Bo.

October 22nd, Thursday: Doing chores: Happijac, bank, Costco, grocery store

While we were doing chores, I did not take any pictures per se, but when we were coming back from Ogden, the views were so nice, decided to take some pictures.

Leaving Ogden after a day of chores. Man, if you lived out here, would you get used to this? The rocks here are unbelievable!
Getting ready to go up the Canyon Road
Very wiggly road, I could only take a couple of pictures even though we were not going very fast, it is just hard to take pictures when the road curves.
OK, THIS is why we are not going to be here when the snow flies - imagine putting snow tires or chains on the trailer?
Cool Sign!
Mountain Rocks
The dam for Pineview Reservoir. The water is low for this time of the year. It will probably go lower before it gets higher in the spring.

October 23rd, Friday: Putting on spare tire for trailer, getting trailer ready for travel, and taking another hike, more like a road trip and sort of hike.

Picture Explanation
This is the road up to Powder Mountain. We did not take our rig, but Bo drove his car. It is one of the steepest roads in the USA. But it is state cared for, so they have to plow it and maintain it. Bo said that people have gone too fast on it and not made the turns.
Views from Powder Mountain, slightly hazy but still awesome!
Chair Lift of Powder Mountain, the sky was absolutely awesome. We drove as close as we could and then took a short steep walk up to the chairlift and the lodge area. But the sky was so cool, and it was a little cold up there.
Mainline trail
Hidden Lake Express with Laura and Bo. This is the chairlift up close!
Sasha and Laura - with the chairlift
The lodge of Powder Mountain - this is the taller lodge, there is another one further down.
Bo and I, Me a little cold, but you can see Great Salt Lake in the way, way background.
Sasha and I - sun is setting, so makes for an interesting picture.
Sasha and the lift, look at the sky!

October 24th, Saturday: Went down to Antelope Island inside of Great Salt Lake. Had a very enjoyable day hiking and checking out the scenery with all the bison, deer, and a ranch to boot!

Picture Explanation
Laura & Bo with the Great Salt Lake in the background, on Antelope Island. The lake was green and the area smelled briny.
Rocks of Antelope Island with Great Salt Lake in the background.
We took an nice little hike down to the water to check it out. Neither warm or cold, just smelled a little funny. I don't know if I would want to go here in the summer, there are briny flies all year long.
Sasha and Great Salt Lake
A Bison taken from a safe distance away.
Causeway from the museum. They had a very nice museum, I got a couple of postcards (have to find a post office) and a geology book of Antelope Island.
Artistic Bison with Sasha. Pretty cool, the holes were other bison. you could see through them to see the Great Salt Lake.
There is a historical ranch also at the island, where they raised cattle and sheep. They had a house and bunk house, everything was open and available.
This was part of the sheep barn where they would shear the sheep.
Bo and Sasha got a little closer to the bison, closer than I would have liked, but here is a picture of them (the bison).
After Antelope we went over to Snow Basin - just took a picture.

October 25th, Sunday: organizing like crazy, did not go out but did watch the movie: The Great Outdoors with John Candy and Dan Ackroyd. However, there was this bird, if you know what it is, please send me an email using the link below. Here are some pictures of it.

October 26th Monday: Back on the road after lunch.

Check out Idaho, where we run into interesting weather, and check out Craters of the Moon National Monument.
