Laura and Sasha Hiking and Outside Enjoying Life

I have kept tallies on our expenses since 2007. We record every penny going in and out. I love looking back and seeing how much gas was in 2007 or 2008, compared to now. Or what was expensive to us then vs now. We follow the principles in Your Money or Your Life, Transforming Your Relationship with Money.

For 2012: Yahoo! Summary of 2012 is now done! OH MY Gosh, No No No we spent too much!

Summary of 2012 – Part of the reason that this year is so late is because I was ashamed of the lack of frugality this year. **Present Day Laura: This is what I wrote back in 2012 but probably more like 2013 because we did spend a crazy amount).

We spent WAY too much and had to go into our savings. We really hadn’t had to do that before, but this year we did.

The explanation of the expenses of the year are below:

Winter in Lake Mead NRA, Spring/Summer Working for NPS & Back to Lake Mead in the Fall!

What I would suggest is going to the different months to see why we spent what we did. November and December 2012 still need to be put in (because I have not done it yet) but in the guestbook was a comment from Frank, who made me realize that this information is good to someone else, as it helps them research and plan for the day that they too will start full-timing.

One of the interesting things here is the average. This year, the second year in a row since we started full-timing, that we did not go under $1,000 for expenses. The lowest we ever got was $1,117.00 for July. I bemoaned this fact last year too. I can only hope that soon, we will get down to the lower numbers. Well, hope springs eternal. We shall see.

January 2012 – In Nevada, at Lake Mead National Recreation Area, and close to Las Vegas. How much money did we waste or spend to get healthy yet again?

February 2012 – In Nevada, at Lake Mead National Recreation Area, and close to Las Vegas. Did we learn from our mistakes of January or did we keep going?

March 2012 – Getting ready to head back to Grand Canyon, getting the provisions and truck ready.

April 2012 – First full month at Grand Canyon with spring hiking and weather weirdness.

May 2012 – The next full month in Grand Canyon National Park, annual solar eclipse

June 2012 – Family visiting, lots of eating out, how bad could it be?

July 2012 – Hot in the Grand Canyon and Monsoon season, but our cheapest month yet.

August 2012 – Another hot month in Grand Canyon, whatever will we do for fun?

September 2012 – Bye, Bye Grand Canyon, Road Trip back east, but without the rig!

October 2012 – We will be living with my parents and Sasha’s parents, getting as much together time as possible.

November 2012 – Still back East, for more time together.

December 2012 – We will be headed back to Lake Mead by mid December, can we make it before the snow falls?

This year the expenses were very high for us. We went into savings this year, although we also deposited money into savings. We did not save very much. Most of the Savings were put back into the Savings, i.e. that were put into the CDs or Investments and very little was used for income.

We spent time visiting family this year with them coming to visit us or we visiting them. Back and forth we went, this time without the rig as that was even more expensive. So the Transportation costs are our largest costs each year so far. Hopefully someday we will get that down, but probably will be sometime in the future.
