We visit Shoshone Falls, Idaho

Shoshone Falls, Idaho

We visit Shoshone Falls, the Niagra of the West, 4-29-2016

We visited this remarkable place on 4-29-2016.

On our way north to West Yellowstone, we made a side trip to Shoshone Falls. This is a town park run by the town of Twin Falls, Idaho. The access road to the park was pretty narrow and steep but we slowly and carefully took our fully loaded rig on it without issue.

Shoshone Falls is higher than Niagara Falls and is known as “Niagara Falls of the West”. The river is the Snake river and flows south and west from it’s origins in Yellowstone National Park.

The Snake River was having a high spring run off but unfortunately the reservoir upstream was holding water back temporarily and the falls themselves were running a tad low.

It was interesting seeing the Idaho countryside on this trip. Much of it is irrigated farm land and blooms out of the high desert by virtue of water from the Snake River.
