Traveling Craziness

The Finances of Living in a Truck Camper:
March 2008

Our Last Month

Volunteering 3 days a week and Sasha working full-time

March – The Last Month at Prince William Forest Park, an NPS site

We were becoming old hats at doing the hosting position at the cabin camps. It is a pretty easy job, as long as you make sure that the people clean up after themselves. That is the hardest part.

Crazy Busy Traveling March

This month is going to be CRAZY! Almost every single day will have someone at the cabin camps, either coming in or leaving, plus we are trying to get packed for leaving Prince William Forest Park, and move to a Candy Hill Campground in Winchester, VA. I have to pack stuff up first before I start the massive amount of cleaning the cabin – I want it to really shine.

AND I am writing a seminar for the Mid-Atlantic Truck Camper Rally which goes from April 17th through April 20th. I teach seminars and classes, so it is not a problem, but this is a new class for me, so just getting my thoughts onto paper has been a little difficult. Once it is on paper, fleshing it out will not be a problem. And of course, we are taking a vacation March 23rd to March 27th – real short, but needed.

Expenses Up, Traveling & Eating Out $$$

As you can see, we have a few (ha ha) expenses. The food prices were not too bad, partly because I hardly bought any food this month as we tried to eat up the food in the freezer and refrigerator. However, the Out to Eat was high because both of us were traveling this month.

New Categories for Transportation

We have a few new categories starting this month, we have separated out gas for the car and for the motorcycle. You can also see the purchase price of the motorcycle. On Sasha’s Trip page, we will explain all about the bike.  We also paid for insurance for 6 months, which included the motorcycle for the next six months.  We did not use the truck hardly at all this month, putting the camper on the truck before we went down to Florida. (I had a slight fear that Sasha might get hurt on the trip, so if the camper was already on the truck, I would be able to move it. – Irrational? Yes, but better safe than sorry.)

Communication higher

Communication was up a little because we sent Sasha’s gear down to Florida to the seller’s house so that we would not have to lug it on the plane. The internet went up this month, so we are quite glad that we cancelled the dial-up. I’m glad we had it, but I can’t wait for higher speeds.

New Categories for Recreation

Our recreation went up because of going to Florida, and there is a new category called Toys Gear. This has to do with the ATV, Dirt Bike and now Motorcycle. We also got our Passports and put those expenses under Books. We put motels that Sasha stayed at under Fun Stuff because it was fun for Sasha to go to Florida.

Savings Low

Our savings were low this month as we had high expenses or buying the motorcycle. However, we saved money from the first two months of the year. This savings translated to buying a motorcycle outright, without having a loan. We hope to never do a loan again.
